Can anyone explain what exactly "Oil Injection" is on a 2 stroke outboard? I'm going to buy an 84' Suzuki DT140 tomorrow and I'm confused about this. Does this mean that I don't pre-mix the fuel? Thanks:confused:

Re: Oil Injection?

Oin a carb or EFI 2 cycle outboard with oil injection, the oil is put in a tank on the motor or in the boat (or both places), and the motor automatically mixes the proper amount of oil into the gasoline the motor uses. You will not have to pre-mix the fuel, but put straight gasoline into the tank, and keep the oil tanks full. The '84 Suzuki may indeed have this system, but you need to check to see if it was disabled, or if it still functions correctly.

BTW Most Oil injection systems mix the gas and oil near or at the fuel pump, and then put it into the carbs or EFI injectors. The Direct Injection systems are quire different.

As Chris1956 stated make sure it was not disabled at some point over the years.

Re: Oil Injection?

Thanks for the replies. I got the motor yesterday and the owner explained it to me. Everything still works properly. I like the idea of not having to pre-mix the fuel.
