I just purchased a new 2008 25hp EFI it only has 2 hrs on it i stoped running it until i can get it checked out. It makes a Whining/Whering noise while running in Neutral when its in Foward or Reverse it does not do it.
Im not sure if its an Engine problem or lower unit possibly a Clutch Dog i am leaning toward its either almost in or out of one of the Gears. When i returned to the Dock it seemed that there was not much neutral just Foward or Reverse coupled with the hard shifting, i must have jumped from forward to reverse 6-7 times before i found Neutral to the point where i almost crashed the Boat as i drifted into the Ramp sidewase i decided to just shut it down and use the Paddle before something worse happened.
I have been around Boats most of my life and have never experience this issue.
My last engine was a 25 hp merc/Mariner Long shaft tiller elec. on a Boston Whaler, the engine was great out of the Box to this day even No complaints period. It performs as it should and i can operated the rig like a pro.
However this new 25 4stroke is more like a lose cannon.
