How to put oil in outdrive with external reservoir?

Last summer I put an external oil reservoir on my pre-alpha outdrive. It uses a fitting that goes into the vent hole on the top of the drive, and a hose that goes through the transom into the engine compartment. I drained the oil when I pulled the outdrive to grease the u-joints. I've re-connected the hose to the barbed fitting, but now I'm not sure how to re-fill the outdrive. Do I refill the reservoir and wait for it to drain into the outdrive, or do I still have to fill it from the drain hole like I did before it had the external reservoir?

Thanks

Fill the drive as you normally do without the reservoir. Then hook up the reservoir hose. Fill up the reservoir and you are set to go. It will burp the air out of the hose when you run it. The drive, however, is full to the proper level.
You could also fill the drive normally, hook up the hose and and continue pumping gear lube till it showes up in the reservoir. Then top it off.
That is how the Alpha I Gen II drives are filled (execpt you put the vent plug in. They do not have the hose connected to the vent plug.)
