How do I identify my Mercruiser Outdrive?

I'm trying to identify my outdrive for my 1981 Sea Ray 195. I'm assuming it's an Alpha-1, but I'd like to make sure before I order a new impeller for the raw water pump.

The drive itself is stamped:
5924327 150R

Bell housing is stamped:
5916687

Also, are the alignment tools all the same? I found a Mercruiser part #91-57797A3. Is this what I'll need when it comes time to realign the engine?

Are the impellers the same? I just did a search for an impeller kit for a Mercruiser One drive impeller, and found this http://www.boatequipmentsuperstore.com/GLM-12290-impeller-service/

It says "For all Mercruiser 1 & Alpha One, & Mercury, Mariner, Force."

Awful use of the ampersand, but it seems like they're saying that the raw water pump assembly is the same.

Can anybody confirm this?

Also, any takers on the alignment tool being a universal tool?

As for the alignment tool, one bar will work with all the drives. That part number you have is correct. It also works with Volvo and OMC drives. I got mine from ebay. Do a search for Mercruiser alignment tool, and look for the seller named bashlor10. It is not a Mercruiser bar, but a VERY well machined bar that works great. In fact, I showed it to a local mechanic, and he thought it was better than his Mercruiser bar.

Ayuh,..... Not Really......

It's confusing because the Roundish Cases of the old Model 1 drives went away in 1982,.....

The 1983,+ Up drives All look the Same on the outside,...
The "R"s,+ the "MR"s look exactly like the actual "Alpha 1, gen.I"s......

And of course that all Changed with the Alpha 1, Gen.IIs in,.... 91 is it Don,..?? :D

Ayuh,.......

That'll depend on the Serial #..........

If Could be an Alpha 1,......

'course,.... It Could be an R, or MR as well..........

Btw,...... Rustolium Black enamel.....

thanks bondo, i'll check the serial. Its kind of hard to see, but I think I can get it. I've been ordering parts for an alpha, and have had no problems yet. Probably most are interchangable.

If the lower unit drive shaft has a preload pin on the top it is a #1. If no pin it is an Alpha.
