I have an '87 mariner 150 magnum. It has been sitting up for over 5 years. I got it running this past weekend but I have a steering cable that is froze up and we spent 2 hours trying to get it to budge and it wouldn't. Does anyone have any tips on replacing it???

Re: Steering cable problems

It's pretty simple. I did it on my 89 mariner. Not sure if there is a difference with yours being older but it isn't to bad of a job. Just make sure you get the right length. When and if you pull the other cable out, make sure to tie a rope to the end of the cable (the side you not pulling on). Then when you go to put the new one in you can just tie the rope to it and pull it through. better to bring the cable to the store when you buy or order one so you can match length just in case there are any variances in brands or something.

I would assume you recommend pulling it out of the back of the boat when it is being pulled out??? I was planning on hooking a rope on the other end anyways and then just pulling the new one through.. I just didn't know how bad of a job it was...

How about outting a water pump kit on...does anyone have any suggestions for that??? I have a manual in the mail right now, but i have never done this to a water pump.

I have done a water pump rebuild kit as well. I didn't really have any trouble with it. The manual will probably guide you through it well.
