They did not. That's why there are no left hand props. The early gearcases shifted opposite of the later ones as stated. On one, the shift rod pulled up for forward, the other pushed down for forward. All he needs is the linkage off of the same year range powerhead as the lower unit.

Dhadley is referring to the linkage that bolts to the side of the powerhead and runs down under the bottom carburetor. Replace it as a complete set.

Honestly, it might be easier to simply replace the unit with the correct style. You can then sell the unit you already have to recoup...

I was thinking along the same line and have started looking but the shipping is going to suck if i can't find it local. Is there a way find out exactly what year the one i have is so i can advertise it correctly and not stick someother poor fool with this problem?
