Broken Trim reservoir fill cap

Well I was checking my trim fluid and I broke the threads from the end cap. (Went a little past hand tight)Luckily I was able to pull the threads out from the reservior.

Now the question is, I've superglued the cap to the threads and it seems pretty strong. Will it be okay going back into the trim reservoir?

The whole bolt/cap is plastic, it goes on my 1999 40HP Force(mercury) engine on my 16 ft Tracker Deep V.

It might hold for a while, but I'd start hunting down a replacement soon. It should be a standard sort of part. I don't think it'll be too hard to find.

Well the glue didn't hold up. Maybe i didnt' glue it correctly in line. But after I started tightening it down it came undone. Oh well.

I ordered the part from a Mercury dealer in the area. $16 for the plastic cap.

I had the same problem. I found that a cap from a windshield washer bottle fit it perfectly. In fact better than perfect because you have to push it down to get it to turn so it is a self locking cap and cannot losen itself.
It came free with the windhield washer.
