Don't really know much about "throwaway" gensets.
bought this last year for $120.00 plus shipping

1000w 2 stroke. Ran for approximately 700 hrs (based on fuel usage)

This good? Still can get them for $150.00, might get 2 or 3. Seems to be cost effective.

Re: Genset hours?

This year was kind of an exception for using one. I was wondering because the prices for the same ratings were close to $400.00 and better. I used it to to run a couple of small battery chargers, couple fans, TV and such in the motor home (no power on the Citra property), used the coach genset sparingly (micro, washer, dryer, occasional A/C in the late evening).

getting into the high 80's here now. Time to head home :D

Re: Genset hours?

I have 2 of these. I got them for $75 each with shipping from Ebay. Had them for 2 years now and use them frequently. I have had no problems at all. From what I was told, the motor is actually a Honda motor that is being produced by the same factory that produced them for the last 20+ years. They said the patent ran out on some of the Honda motors, and the factories that used to make the motors for Honda kept making them and selling them to other companies...cheap.

I know the overall quality is not as good as a name brand unit, but cost is always a concern. I have no need to spend $500 for a Honda or Coleman when these serve their purpose well. I dropped one of the units last year and broke some plastic, the fuel petcock, and the end of the generator casing. I called the 800 number on the generator. They sent replacement parts free of charge. Can't ask for more.

This one still runs and puts out. Governor assembly malfunction internally.
Think I'll get 2 and put this one a shelf for parts. Sure is a handy little thing.
