My 40 hp evinrude outboard's switch is not working. I had to replace the switch because I lost the keys. I wired the switch per instructions.....What am I missing. This switch was a little different than my old one as one of the "m" terminals is made to screw down into it instead of just screwing it into side. I am able to make the starter engage by jumping it....so it has to be the switch. HELP !!!

Howdy BAMA.

Welcome to iboats. :)

I take it you are talking about the ignition/starter switch.

Put the original back in and copy down the numbers on the key plate. Take them to your JohnnyRude dealer and he can provide you a new key.

Well it doesn't "have" to be the switch. Use a piece of wire to jump from the battery wire terminal to the white wire S terminal (at the switch). If it cranks then, it might be the switch. If hot-wiring from battery to white wire doesn't make it crank, there is some thing wrong somewhere else. Probably the starting safety switch. What year 40hp??
