this is my 'speed'boat not very speedy atmo as i havnt got the engine yet.

also the engine im getting is a johnson 20hp creams hood, and a grey/blue bottom anyone have any ideas what year as the only grey and cream johnsons i can find are 35/40hp and they didnt say a year, or if they are 20hp they are usually green and cream hood and they are 1973, anyone got any ideas? also how much do you think it'll be worth when/if i get it running well?

ive seen a few of those hull designs up here in canada.

the windsheild is throwin me off, cause the ones ive seen are uasually swept back more......ill look around. i think there is 4 or 5 of thoes in my area.

but understand, that molds were bought and sold. one manufacturer would make a few hunderd, sell the mold, another would buy it and make some more.

so the name isnt that imortant....

this is the only one this shape iv ever seen thats why i ask, that would be quite interesting if this design is in canada, i wanna see how well it planes, also am i right in saying that most speedboat are short shaft transoms whereas this is long is there a name for the style of my hull? the screen is supposed to be at that angle i believe as the fibreglass at the bottom is at that angle.

guess how much i paid for it?

well it was WAY less than your guess anyone else?

i also found out another fact today about the engine not about identification but about the likelyhood of it working so here all i know
+ long shaft 20hp
+ johnson
+ turns over with good pressure
+ with fuel tank and pipe
+ and engages gears

so i think i have cut out a lot of potential problems with these facts.

also, you got the boat free,

and that hull design is quite fast.
im actually shocked that its a 30.......

the ones up here i see are all running 85's.....scary fast

good deal. was that at an auction. (the extra .50 made me think that)

i thoiught a 30 hp was small for that boat. as the ones round here run between 50 and i think ive seen 85 hp on them.......

how long is that boat, have you measured?

if its shorter than what im thinking, a 30 will make it fly

If it is a Fletcher, I think with a 20HP it would really be underpowered. I have not seen anything under a 40HP on them, and 200HP and over for some of their slightly larger, but similarly designed, newer versions.

Some information I found ...

recommended HP for a older 13footer was 20 -40hp

recommended HP for a older 16footer was 50 -140HP.

How long is it?

What through's me off is the way the gunwales connect to the windshield. Most Fletchers have a small gap in there connected by a strip of aluminum at the top creating a “open window” or a “rolled down window” look.

Check the "Classic Motor Boat Association of Great Britain" perhaps someone there can help identify it.

as far as we can tell here at i boats....the craft snapping turtle is using as a sig. was developed to be a drug runner in england, the company that made them was put out of business by the government or the courts, as the boat had only one purpose......btw......the boat was not as fast as we think !

that boat in snapping turtles sig is relitivly new......the movie was from the early 70's

all of the boats used on the james bond movie live and let die, were all glasstrons, they had a thicker hull at the keel than other boats so they were easyer to modify for the famous "best boat chase ever filmed". the boat jumps were real and set several world records for boat jumping.

there is a lot of i boats trivia. including the famous scene in the movie allways, where a water bomber scoops up water and just about gives two fisherman a haircut, it was so close to them. the two guys were i boaters, see stupid human tricks, and search "allways clip"....read spinner bait nut's comments. bubbacat,and cant remember the other member

OOPS nailed this one.

There are only two groups of people using these boats, drug runners & smugglers, and there official counterparts, the police and the military in the countries affected.

The companies making these boats happily sell to both sides.

You see them in southern Europe running daily trips back and forth from north Africa to England, Spain, France, and Italy. They are also being used all over Asia. In Asia it is the pirates that are the major buyer of these.

This one is running eight VX250's, somewhere I have a photo with one mounted with twelve 300HP's.

If you check u-tube, you will find videos of 18- 20 yearolds driving these loaded with tons of hash heading for Europe. They come in, unload in minutes just outside the countries nautical boarders onto smaller speedboats turn and head back to Africa. The smaller speedboats, sometimes dozens, scatter in all directions leaving the boarder police with hard the decision of which to chase down. Most of them, if not all, will always make it through.

A cat and mouse game for them, and they have no fear of getting caught. Their boats are faster than the cops helicopters, and they are always better armed with the newest the market has to offer.

A sad state of the world we live in.

ummm its 14ft give or take an inch, im going to try and make it look as retro as poss with my budget, il be making the back bench in 3 weeks, im planning to get some nice hard wood probably mahogany and make a kinda of ladder on one or both of the slopes at the back (probably a proper name for the slopes ), though its very cheeky up the road from me someone is throwing away 2 or 3 white leather sofas (dunno if its fake or real leather but who cares) so im gunna go and have a nice chat with them. could cover my bench seat nicely. i havnt decided exactly what style/design i want inside i dont want a normal boring flat straight bench any ideas or pics of what you have done?????

Don't know what brand it is but it appears to have been intended to go fast! That deep-V hull with no pad will probably not perform well with only 20hp. You might want to post some pictures on Scream&Fly Forum and see what they say. Good luck with your project.
