dockside fueling

I just read an article about fueling procedures at the dockside. I knew about turning off all the electrical devices and closing all the hatches. This article also suggested turning off the battery switch as well. Is this the commonly accepted procedure as well? The only electrical device that could turn on automatically is the bilge pump and this is directly connected to the battery so that shutting off the switch would not prevent it from coming on anyway.

Re: dockside fueling

I don't have a battery switch on mine, so I can't turn that off.

I've been wondering if I should keep the blower running while fueling, or if I should turn it off. I figured the extra ventilation can't hurt, but then again the chance for sparking in general might not be worth it.

Any thoughts?

I have always been told to turn the blower off! Then when done fueling, I lift the cowling, sniff for gas and if no smell, turn the blower on, start the engine and then close it up.
