I have a 2008 2070 VTC Ultra Roughneck and have floatation pods and a jack plate and have 2 9 gallon gas tanks up front, i have also removed the rear decking and moved the CC forward... I have side benches in the back to hold my level floatation foam..

i am running a 95 Ocean Pro 115 2 stroke.

I am currently running a SS 13.75 X 15 prop. no gear or load the WOT is 6200rpm's . Once loaded for intended use the rpms drop down to 5800, which is right were i want it... with a top speed loaded of only about 34-35 mph...

unloaded the Top speed is 39 mph.

I have used a factory OMC 14 X 17 aluminum prop and it only gave me 5300 rpms at 38 MPH unloaded.

used the SS prop all winter in duck season and hit a few rocks...bent my prop shaft and ruined the seal, got a lot of water in the LU..

Now i beliebve there is NO upside to a SS prop if you dont run out in the wide open deep ocean!!!

5 aluminum props are cheaper than one SS prop and a bent prop shaft!!

Sorry to hear that Bob!
That is also one reason why I decided to go with a Turning Point prop, it was way cheaper but I believe it gave me SS performance just the same.

Not sure if you have read this review but I highly recommend them.

Re: What prop pitch/material are you running on your Lowe?

Just picked up a new to me boat last month. 05 FM165 with a 05 Merc 60 4-stroke came equiped with a 17pitch prop. I believe it's 10". I forgot the exact model #.

At WOT, RPM were low to mid 4K. Max speed was about 26-27MPH GPS. I did hit 30 MPH somehow. I couldnt duplicate it. Must have been a fluke of some kind with the water being smooth or the wind behind me.

Anyways, just received a Black Max 10 5/8 x 12 P prop. Will see how this goes.

I'll bet that 12p wakes it up. Whats the gear ratio on that lower unit?

I have no idea. Are there different versions?

It's a 2005 Mercury 60ELPTEFI
Serial # 1B1444XX

PS, the "X" are actually numbers, but I assigned it with a letter due to privacy issues.

I get 34mph on the gps and speedo by myself with a 12P prop with my fm165 with a 60hp 4S, 6200 rpm. Almost hit the rev limitter. With three adults, I get about 32mph and 6000rpm.

once at WOT, playing with the trim can increase speed ...you actually trim OUT...

Since its not a Bigfoot model, Im pretty sure its a 183:1 final drive. You should get very good performance with the 12 or 13 pitch depending on your load. Good luck, let us know how that works out for ya.

Re: What prop pitch/material are you running on your Lowe?

Just had my 1st outting with the new prop. WOW it made a HUGE difference. Holeshot is much quicker. Top end, I'm hitting 31.6 MPG GPS. RPM is right at 5900 on console.

Happy camper.

PS, I'm not 100% convinced my motor is the standard version. I may have a BigFoot. From all the stickers, it should be a standard. But when I look in the manual, it shows the BigFoot version having 2 vent holes for the lower unit and 1 vent for the regular version. On my lower unit, I have 2 vent holes.....

Re: What prop pitch/material are you running on your Lowe?

I have a 17' Roughneck and a 50 Merc 2 stroke, I haven't really got the motor broken in yet, with a light load its turning 5600rpms with the stock
10 3/8"X 14" aluminum prop. The max speed on the gps was just over 34mph.
Once I have a better feel for what its going to do with a normal load and better air temps(it was in the upper 90's). Based on what I was hearing, I thought I would have to go with a 13" or maybe even a 12" pitch prop, but it dosn't look that way. Now I am considering a 14" Merc Trophy Sport.

Re: What prop pitch/material are you running on your Lowe?

I would like to report, in perfect water conditions, where it is smooth as glass. I was able to hit 34.3 MPH on GPS.
I forgot to look at my RPM to see where it was though.
It was with 2 adults with full fishing gear and half tank of gas.

The thing about the trim though. I get on plane pretty quick with the motor all the way down.

When I'm on plane, I trim up to try and improve top speed. Well, I barely have to adjust for this. I literally tap the button once, maybe twice to find what I believe is optimal speed. Otherwise, the prop/motor has that weird sound like it's not "normal" to me, if I trim up too much.

Am I not trimming correctly? I would think I would have to trim a lot higher?

Thats identical to what I have found, I can continue to trim the motor up until it sucks air and gain nothing. I believe it varies with the hull style, size of motor and prop.
