Boat sits toward stern

I've got a 25ft Proline and it seems to sit toward the stern while sitting in the water. As in the bow is always way above the stern. It has 2 150's on it but the boat should handle that. I have bow trims and the boat does seem to ride with the bow way up even under full power but I think that is because I have yet to learn how to use them correctly. I'm just not sure as to why the boats pitches up as it does even while still. Any ideas?

Well, 2 150s can be heavy. Did the boat come from the factory with this setup? I would think the CG would be tail heavy. If the gas tank and things like batteries were in the bow, it might balance things out.

All boats will pitch up under power and it can be controlled with tabs and adjusting the trim, but if the CG is off, nothing will level the boat out if it was not built for it.

Re: Boat sits toward stern

My Grady does the something at rest and it's normal. Running with the bow up is also normal and is called the running angle.

Not sure about the Proline but the entry point of my bow when trimmed properly and running at speed is right under my feet at the helm which is roughly half way back from the bow. Adding trim to lower my bow beyond this point will only hurt my performance and drive my fuel usage up.

If I fill the aux. tank which is up under the helm area the boat will set pretty flat in the water but the additional weight up front doesn't allow the boat to get up to it's normal running angle. The forward weight helps tremendously in rough water but again it's killing my fuel mileage having that much hull in the water while running.

Picture? Model? Year? I could see a Center Console sitting pretty low with twins and being very normal . . .

I assume these are trim tabs and probably Bennett's. Here's a link to the operation manual. You definitely need to understand how to use them. They will make a huge impact on lots of different conditions. As someone else said, bow up at higher speeds is a good thing. Bow up at low speeds can be a safety issue. Learn to use both your motors' trim and trim tabs to optimise for all speeds and you will be a happy camper . . . errrr . . . boater.

Welcome aboard iboats!!!

You have nearly 800 pounds of weight hanging right on transom. Of course that is going to mash the stern down into the water. Can we assume the hull isn't full of water below the floor?

I just don't believe it...so many Grade A responses so quick, I most certainly appreciate it. The boat is a 1990 Sportsman 25' Proline. It came with 2 200's so I believe it should handle the weight, and probably does sit with the bow up naturally. I'll try the trim tabs, BTW thanks for that manual and you're right I have the identical tabs pictured. I'll learn proper water negotiation before heading out again. I'll check for water in the bottom of hull also.

Thanks

BTW, twin 200s are probably exactly the same weight as twin 150s . . . Get used to quick answers; we don't F around . . . well, actually we F around a lot, but we also spit out some fairly useless info along with the Fin' around :)

How much of an angle is on the deck on when still?

Mine sits real, real aft heavy... My bottom paint actually wont even come up high enough at the back of the boat for it. So long as it runs good, planes quick, and gets decent fuel mileage, I say no worries.

What rpms are you getting at wot? When you get it up to wot adjust the trim to max wot and see if you are getting max recommended for your engines. If not you need to adjust your set-up. I don't know the 150s but think you should be turning 55-5800 rpm.
