Hi all,

I have a 1998 Mercury 75 two-stroke. First tilt will not hold up, it will start falling very slow (can't see moving) but when I return next day it will be down also it's noisy giong up.
Also I relaized last week when I reversed the motor sharply to avoid collision the motor made a quick tilt up move and came down hard.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong and waht I can do.

Thank you.

Re: Tilt won't hold up and in reverse motor tilts up

Hi

You seem to have somewhat of a similar problem i do. If i leave my motor up over night, the next day it will be down. I talked to a few people and they say its possible that some seals are gone and its loosing pressure. Though not sure in your case but I don't actually loose any fluid, but the pressure over time is lost and down it goes. I come back the next day and it will rise with no problems. Now i've never hit my reverse hard to get it to go up like that on my 89 150, but i have on my little 15hp Evinrude. I'm almost positive its normal if you jerk it into reverse hard and with lots of throttle.

My advice is your probably going to need to have the seals in tilt/trim unit replaced. It sounds odd though as your motor is a 98 whilst mine is a 89. Ask around at your local boat shop. They may have parts for it off used motors to cut costs.

sounds like you are low on fluid to me, if its noisey going up. Fill and check for leaks.
