Model 70573-b, serial J0001631. I replaced the pump with the new improved pump, did a carb job and installed a new thermostat. I attached the water muff and fired the motor. I was a little apprehensive as this motor does not have the telltale stream of water. I kept feeling the motor until it got a bit more than warm to the touch than what I liked. I killed it and took the thermostat cover out. Much to my dismay the thermostat was dry and there was no sign of water anywhere.
First I thought since I have well water where I am working the motor maybe the low pressure was not helping the pump. But I could see how the amount of water escaping around the water muffs was a significant less than when the motor was off. I also noticed a lot of water coming off those vents a bit higher in the lower unit.
I am theorizing that maybe the pump case did not set up right in the water tube and that is my problem. If not then something is plugging the water tube or another section of the water jacket. If I dont see anything wrong with the pump or the connection from the water pump to the water tube then I will use an old cut water hose attached to the water tube to see if there is water flowing to the water jacket then. If I still dont have water it must be something in the water jacket/tube.
Anything else that you guys think I should check? I have changed plenty of impellers so I am sure I have the impeller blades fold correctly but I will check that too.

Thanks!

I have no expertise with motors but I had a booger of a time getting my water tube to insert properly into the water pump. The rubber gasket would fold up once I started to slide the lower unit back in. I eventually put some WD-40 around the inside of the rubber gasket and left it sticking out about halfway. Once I made sure everything was lined up, I carefully slid the lower unit in the rest of the way. I would check that first personally.

The problem was the pump not aligning with the water tube. I fixed that and it worked. I proceed to do the tattle tale retrofit as this motor dont have one. I mounted the connector in the thermostat cover in the section where the water comes from the motor. The water is very hot there. If I looked closely I could see the steam coming out of the water. However, I could touch the stream with my nitrile (sp) gloves and no problem. It was a little hot in the bare skin though. Also I kept touching the motor all over and it would take from 6 to 10 seconds before it was a bit uncomfortable to the touch. Does anyone knows if it will be an issue to have the water connection there? I was planning in the future to add a water temp and water pressure gauge but I am not sure if this might have any adverse effect. Any input will be appreciated. Looks like I am going for a ride on it tomorrow...
