Lookng for help, does anybody out there know if they sell a fuel pump kit for a 1989 johnson 40??? my local place tells me that they cannot be rebuilt. They quote me around $300.00 for a new pump. Sound right? Also I can not seem to find any exploded views for this anywhere. Any ideas out there?????

Thanks for the reply. It is a VRO pump, I just finished rebuilding my carbs, so I decided to look at the diaphram on the pump. Things looked good initially, however, when all was put back together, I was unable to tighten down the screws good due to the plastic housing, (stripped). The manual does not really show what I need, unless people know of a better one. For the screw problem, I went to a bolt with nuts, which I was able to tighten pretty good however it did not stop the flow of gas coming out of the seam.

This is my first time on this site, and I am thankful already. This is killing me the Bass are in heavy!!!!!

the oil side is not rebuildable. you are financially better off to disable the Vro Pump, and go with a premixed fuel pump, conversion, and just premix your fuel. i have 2 50's and 1 40 that vintage, running on premix, just for the expense of the pump. also if you go with a replacement mixing pump, you need to upgrade to the new OMS pump, instead of the VRO pump.

tashasdaddy,

Good thought, I will look into that. The engine is sweet, and runs great, so I want to hang onto it for as long as possible. That would also eliminate the need to have the rather large oil tank on the boat. Thanks for the thought. How does the non VRO pump connect to the air cleaner. Is it still with those rubber tabs?
