I know that I have a thread floating around here asking for opinions about whether or not to get rid of my Dakota. Well I finally did it. I waited about as long as I could...........then made the move.

The transmission was really starting to act funny, sometimes it would really clunk around before it found a gear. It didn't happen often but it was bad when it did.

I had a few estimates on the door. (snapped hinge) It was about ready to come off al together and it was pretty beat up from how it had been closing. The locking and latching mechanisms had all broken off in the door and were being held by some machine screws and washers I had laying around. If not for that I wouldn't be able to close the door. The estimates ranged from $1200 to $1500 and that was assuming that once the door was off nothing else needed work. I couldn't find a used door cheap enough for my taste and didn't feel like putting more money into that truck.

I bought a lightly used Chevrolet Silverado. Its a 2004 with 38,000 miles on it. It has controls on the steering wheel, soft tonneau cover, step up bars and heated side mirrors with a turn signal in them. It has dual climat control ac/heat..........its LOADED!

It has the 5.3L V8 with the HD Trailering Package and Heavy Duty Suspension. It has the locking rear differential axel as well.

This truck is pretty much the exact way I would have ordered it new. So far I am in love with it............NOT even close to the Dakota I had before it.

LOL in just about every sense. I had the 3.9 V6 in the Dodge........which was a little bit of a dog. (ok a lot of bit). Going from that to the 5.3 V8 is quite the difference :)

The ride quality is really nice too................doesnt really feel like driving a truck.

Nice ride Pony. I think you will be amazed at the mileage the 5.3 gets. Even the 4x4 can routinely get 20-22mpg mostly highway. I doubt your V6 Dodge got that.

Re: New Tow Vehicle.........

I was lucky to see 14mpg with the Dodge.....the 4x4 was just too much to lug around for that V6.

So far I am averaging about 16mpg but haven't put much freeway time on it. I am really impressed with the 5.3L so far.

I would love to get a bigger boat.......but that will be at a later time depending on what happens at work in the next few months.

I really want to see how many deer it can carry this November :)

Re: Replaced My Dodge!

Pulled my boat for the first time yesterday with it.........I think it would be pretty easy to forget that the boat is even back there. It was really nice.

I have run into only one problem so far........it won't fit in my garage. Thank goodness for those power folding mirrors. If I fold the mirrors in and take the drawbar off, I can make it with about 2 inches to spare to close the door.

I'll give ya a hundred dollar bill every day that a 5.3 4x4 gets 22MPG anywhere.

Naaaaaaa, they are just power mirrors that fold in.

Idunno, they might. They fold in on my Titan just by flipping a switch. Probably not the first truck to have that. Now if I can just teach the guys at the car wash to use the switch to fold them back out.:(

Very similar to your Titan. There is a switch on the driver's side, click it and the mirrors fold in automatically.

The one feature I have tried but have since turned off is the curb view assist. You can set it so that the mirrors flip downward to see the pavement and the rear tires anytime the truck goes into reverse.
