Grease nipple stuck in gun!!! wtf?

I just bought a brand new grease gun and some new marine grease to prep my trailer for my first trip to the lake, put the gun on the bearing buddy thing, pumped some grease in, went to pull it away and the nipple was stuck in the gun.

And by stuck, I mean....friggin stuck! It will not come out of the tip of the gun. Like at all. I've tried to twist is out. Pry it out. Wish it out. Nothing works. I had my crobar on it and still couldn't get it out. What the heck is going on?

Clearly, I need some new bearing buddy things. But what's up with the nipple getting stuck in the gun?

Try twisting the end of the grease gun hose until it loosens up.

The hose part is metal. I've tried twisting everything every which way. the little bugger is stuck solid!

The gun must be defective to do that right? I'm going to take it back to the store tomorrow and try to scam some new bearing buddies out of them as well as an exchange for a different type of grease gun.

I have never heard of a nipple so stuck that you can't free the gun?!
BTW, they are grease zerks. That will keep the "nipple" comment to a minimum.

Ayuh,......

I've had grease Zerts fail many times,...
But they always will pull out of the gun's coupler with alittle Help from a set of Pliers or Vise-Grips,....

I grease heavy equipment fittings every day and had a few stick but they all came off with a couple twists and jerk off center. All I can say is get some visecrips on it and go for broke. Worse case is a new grease fitting or a buddy. When you connected the gun to the grease fittting did it slip on or did you have to use force?

A bench vise works well, if you have one.

How do you guys pull the gun off the zerk fitting? I used to bend the tip sideways to pry it off the fitting, until a few broke on me. Now I pull straight off, but it's much tougher of course. Still less work than replacing the broken fitting though.

Grease guns are now made in China. It looks like all manufacturers of grease guns are buying them from a Chinese supplier and they all now have couplers that grasp on to zerks so tight that you either break off the zerk or do some other procedure to release the grease gun from the zerk. Several have suggested unscrewing the two parts of the coupler to release it. I just returned the grease gun, coupler, grease, complete with captured broken zerk to Home Depot. Then, I bought a new grease gun and grease. Thankfully, my 50 yr. old grease gun's coupler fit the new one and it worked just fine. If anyone can find a source for American made grease guns with old style coupler please answer this thread. Thanks

That happened to me with a gun from Pep Boys. They gave me a new gun & replaced my bearing buddies cuz I explained that would be much cheaper than the amount of business they would lose if they didn't! I merely told them how much of an a**hole I could be when I had to. Some Chinese products suck!

It has happened to me. The gun I had had a tip that could easily screwed off and that relieved the force and it came off. It was a PB unit.
