Had to take the prop off my 2007 Mercury 40 4 stroke, because I nicked it on a submerged piling.
Expected to see a cotter pin, but it is just this small bracket arrangement with two ears and the bottom of the bracket has two small holes that sit over two nibs.
How much torque should I use when I tightened it down?
I just seated the holes on the nibs and bent the two ears back in place with a pliers.
I probably did about 80 lbs as I do not want to lose it today as soon as I put it into reverse since I don't have a spare yet?
Note: Found the manual. Thanks anyway. It says to tighten to 55 lbs, bend tabs back in place and always apply some grease to splines with each removal to prevent seizing.
