An OMC in disguise?

I was looking at a boat that has a 1990 Johsnon Model # RJ90PLSSE outboard. I noted that, at this time, Johnson was a part of OMC corp. Is this engine going to have the same parts availability isses that some OMC stern drives have? Is it a good engine? Does anyone know what the minimum reading should be on a cylinder compressions test?

Thank you.

For starters that model number is a 2000 model year motor, and no the parts are not hard to find for any Johnson or Evinrude motor, some issues on ones older than 1979 though. Compression should be within 10% of each other on all cylinders and prefferably over 100lbs. I hope this helps.

The OMC brand on outdrives and I/Os died with OMC. The Johnson and Evinrude Outboard brands were taken over and are now part of BRP.

A 2000, that's a shock. Just to verify here's some photos. Can you tell for sure from these?

Thanks!

Yep that looks like a 2000 model year motor.

The motor looks to be very good. It's attached to a rough looking 50 year old Dorsett Catalina. If the price is right I might be able to fix her up.

Thanks for the input
