1989 l6 115 mercury spark only in 1 and 2

I do not have anything to test the coils other than having someone crank the motor as I look at the plug out of the cylinder. I have the top spark plug on the first power pack (the #1) firing and the top spark plug on the second power pack (#2) firing. All other spark plug are not firing. Do I just have really bad luck and have 4 bad coils and it is just strange that it is the top plug from both power packs? By the way I have really bad luck and would not think twice about it just being that way. LOL By the way the boat was running fine until the last few days on the water. It was getting harder and harder to start now will not start. HELP

If you have no test equipment not even a OHM meter you need to take it to a shop, throwing parts at it is simply to expencive.

I am a navy vet that is putting myself threw college and working full time. I really can not afford the $100 bucks an hour to take it to the shop or I would. Could I take the known good coils and test them where the bad ones were? If the known good ones do not fire in the place where the bad ones were what does that mean? Bad stator, power pack, trigger? Trying to fix this problem as cheep as I can cause being on the water is my only release. LOL :redface:

There is alot it could be. You can try switching the coils around to see if that makes a difference but I doubt 4 coils are bad. If you can get one of the good coils to spark on each of the bottom three cyls then you can rule out the switch box.
