The fuel is squirting from a small hole on the back of the switch.

Re: Vacuum switch squirting fuel

The obvious answer is to buy a new vacuum switch, but at $100 I want to be sure before I do. From what I have read, the vacuum switch detects a fuel restriction. With fuel squirting out of that hole when the bulb is squeezed, could that mean there is a major obstruction? Does it just mean that the switch is bad? Or some other problem in the VRO?

Are you sure it's the vacuume switch or is it the primer?

I attached a picture of what I believe to be the vacuum switch. This not a picture of mine, but it is the same. I drew an arrow to where the fuel is squirting from.

Yep, you're absolutely correct. That's the vacuume switch. Never seen one do that but it's kinda common for the primer to leak. Cheaper to fix too. The only fix I know of would be a new one.

What would be some other symptoms of a bad vacuum switch? If I can verify it is the vacuum switch I will spend the $100.

If it leaks it's bad.

On the other hand you could pay up the insurance and continue to let it leak in an enclosed compartment and hope you get a spark.....

By any chance the leak isn't coming fron the hose or clamp is it?

The fuel is no doubt squirting from a small hole that is on the switch. The boat runs very rich and can be hard to start and I was hoping these symptoms could be associated with a bad vacuum switch. Either way I will go get one tomorrow.

Silly question -- is the manual valve on the primer solenoid shut completely off?

That may not be that silly. I assume you are talking about the red lever on the choke solenoid. I do have the red lever parallel to the solenoid body, however I am not sure if that is the proper position. Does that lever only move 180 degrees or does it turn 360, and maybe it is not closed all the way?

Parallel to the body is closed. Push on it a little to make sure it's closed completely. It only moves about 90* or so if I remember correctly but parallel is off.

Re: Vacuum switch squirting fuel

Should I turn it clockwise as far as it will go, or should I leave it parallel to the body?
