Lake George is 32 miles long, 3 miles wide at its widest point, with a maximum depth of 195 feet. Touted as the Queen of American lakes. It was 90 degrees, yet on the water it was very enjoyable.

I wish these pics taken yesterday could do justice to what our eyes were seeing, but the heat made things a little hazy at times.

The Adirondacks has some truly spectacular views.

Most pics were taken in the Northern section (Roger's Rock). Lake George village is at the Southern (other end) of the Lake.

Click on a pic to view it larger.

There are some nice mansions on the water there.

I'll have to take some pics of Superior when I head up there in a few weeks... I've gotten used to the scenery, but it's really amazing when you stop to appreciate it.

.....tell me that the big white place (buildings, etc) with all the white deck chairs out on the lawn is a resort of some kind and not a private residence?
Otherwise someone is definitely large....big time.
Good pics, looks a nice spot all in all.

Its a resort....its The Sagamore http://www.thesagamore.com/resort/index.php

probably one of the nices places to stay, and priciest.

Expidia looks like a great day...we spent sunday afternoon on Lake Champlain....I burnt almost 40 gallons of gas stretching out the legs on the Sundowner!

We did Champlain on Sat and Lake George on Sun! Stayed in Ticonderoga at the Super 8 for only $50 per night until the season starts (after kids get out of school I guess). My boating season starts early April :D

Thing about Ticonderoga is you have a free NY State launch with a huge parking lot 3 minutes to the East and then the same for the only NY State free launch on Lake George 5 min. to the West of TI. There is free launch at the Southernmost point of the lake at Million Dollar beach, but it's closes to the public a week before Memorial day and opens again a week after labor day.

This is done so most of the marina's on Lake George can stick it to ya by charging $25 to launch, $10 to park your car and another $5 for your trailer or $40 in total. That's what it was last year anyway at Chic's in Bolton Landing.

Champlain has MANY free NY State launches. I prefer Champlain as the boaters on LG are mostly rude boaters from Downstate and NJ and spoiled kids driving $100k boats who think nothing of going by you WOT 20 feet away and then turn and give you the finger while swigging from a can of beer.

Where as most boaters on Champlain are Canadians who I have found to be classier and a lot more courteous. Just my opinion from 30 years on both lakes. Nothings changed in all the years so I much prefer Champlain. It's also 132 miles long so there is much less boat traffic. The Southern end of LG near the village is down right dangerous. It was touted a few years ago that there are 5000 registered boats on LG and on a Sunday they seem to be all on the lake at once

We can't wait to reserve one of the many islands for camping!

Note: You can't see it by the pic of Rogers Rock which is the one with the big stoney face. It's actually straight up! But from the pics angle it looks like it's a gradual slope, far from it.

You also can't see that there are about 8-10 white specs on the face which are actually people mountain climbing up that steep face. They pull up on boats and start climbing.

I also noticed that the NY State Rogers Rock campground now has 30 moorings which can be reserved online and your boat is right in front of your campsite.

Here is a better pic of Rogers Rock. Check out the boat at the bottom to give you an idea of this rocks size:

I just tossed on a few more pics at the beginning taken on previous trips of some shots on the Southern part of Lake George.

Great shots, Expidia. I miss that area much- went to school in Albany, and we spent some time in Lake George. Very touristy area, caters to the downstate visitors, that's for sure. The pictures look a lot like what we see on the islands that dot the 1000 Islands. Beautiful homes, much more money than I will ever see, but I do love to boat all over the area looking at them. If you get a chance to camp in the St. Lawrence, do it. There are many state campgrounds on the islands that are only accessible by boat, and that is a lot of fun. I will post some shots of the area f you are interested in seeing them. I love that shot from Tommays- the wakeboard looks fun.

Hi Vess, the northern part of lake george is less obnoxious, but the Jerseyites and the Brooklynites are starting to move in

We love the Thousand Islands. Been there several times boating. Will do another trip this Summer for sure. Houses and the views are amazing. Thx for the pics!

Sure, Silver Bay is just below the town of Hague. Silver Bay is one of the prettiest spots on the lake because of the views of the sweeping mountain ranges across the lake.

Some of those pics I snapped were in the Silver bay area as we were cruising South towards the narrows which is peppered with many, many state owned islands to camp on. Most have boat docks too.

It was a 17 mile trip from the Northern tip to the Sagamore Hotel area (That big white hotel pic with all the chairs). Which is the town of Bolton Landing and 17 miles back. Not bad for a 14' 9" Lund :)

Used only about 8 gal of gas round trip.

But this lake can get ugly fast because it's surrounded on all sides by such high mountains the heat can rise and catch the cold upper air and storms come fast at you over the mountains. All of a sudden you're in 4 foot seas! That's why this year, I added the 8 foot antenna and fixed mount VHF. The first season I used a Standard Horizon handheld which was totally useless on a lake that twists along the mountainous shores.

With the new radio I was pulling in Coast Guard break ins all day alerting me to bands of thunder showers which were moving over NY City at the time which was 5 hours South of our position. Even though the max range is 25 miles line of sight it still picks up regional Coast Guard alerts because they broadcast from the tops of mountains I think so we were picking up alerts from the next region down.

Scary note: along the way since they were predicting late afternoon scattered thunder showers with wind gusts up to 58 miles an hour I was telling my Wife that I set way points along the way when I spot a pavilion type structure for quick shelter on one of those camping islands in case we have to take fast refuge in a lightening storm.

So I felt pretty good about myself thinking I know exactly what my plan would be. We didn't see a drop of rain anyway the whole trip or storm clouds or weather alerts.

So the next day I hear on the news that in a town Massachusetts where the bands of thunder showers first passed over New York and then over to the next state, as a storm was passing overhead some guy went under a pavilion in a park to take cover and lightening struck him "under the pavilion" and killed him.

Oops, good thing I didn't have to follow through on my well thought out plan.
One would think that was the correct thing to have done!!!

Better at least than holding on to an 8 foot fiberglass copper cored antenna

Last season in a town next to mine along the Mohawk River canal system (the old Erie Canal) a young kid was standing next to a BBQ grill the type that is built into the ground on a post. The ground was wet, He was barefoot and lightening struck the grill, went through the ground and up through is bare wet feet and killed him.

Lightening scares the Bejesus out of me when it comes to boating. Just read an article tonight that says the FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN STORMS ARE IN THE AREA IS EVERYONE PUTS ON THEIR LIFE JACKETS. I never thought of that. It's a great idea, cause if you're struck and knocked unconscious and fall out of the boat (especially if you are alone, I wear an auto inflate $85 West Marine suspender type preserver now), at least you would be floating face up!

Hey was that you I ran over at Rogers Rock last year? I resemble that, I mean resent that comment about Jerseyans.

If you're tan with a big fat beer belly and swigging a beer while your Girl Friend or Wife is driving WOT and doesn't take any responsibility for who their wake (or wash) is almost swamping other smaller boats . . . then yes . . sadly, we've met many times.

At least it's costing you and arm and a leg to get up here from NJ now :D :) :D maybe the increased costs will stem the flow!

Cool pics, used to island camp up there with the family when I was a kid.

We just had a taste of FL weather past 3 days its been 95 and humid. Not usually like this in June!

When my kids were young we did a lot of camping at the State parks. I'm talking over 30 years and up until last year because I had smaller boats (last one had a 9.9 on it) I actually never knew of all the state islands with camping on them.

I even had a 17 foot Silverline trihull years ago with a 50 hp on it but never ventured more than 1/2 way up Lake George because I always thought it was just wilderness up there. We did go boating around Hague a mile South of the Northern tip but I never knew of the islands!

My kids couldn't wait to get the the Village each trip with all the arcades and shops in the village of Lake George.

Great place to bring kids up though around here. Both my kids are over 30 now (a boy and a girl) and they are both avid campers and avid fisherman. The girl is actually "too" crazy about fishing. Has her own canoe with a minn kota and goes off into the mountains to fish by herself or brings a friend.

They were always around boats and camping as they grew up.

I think they actually developed into better people then if I was loaded and owned one of those mansions in the pictures. We took them all over the place with us. Many of their friends rarely left their neighborhoods unless they went with us. I was always amazed that we live 2-3 hours above NY City and how many of their friends have never been to the city! Never saw times square, statue of liberty etc.

So not being loaded and owning one of those pictured mansions I think my kids were better off that we always did stuff together like camping, boating etc.
