1979 evinrude 85hp model 85999R I bought a service manual and decided to rebuild the carbs my self. Is there anything special I need to know or advice? I just plan on following the book step by step.

Re: carb rebuild

Follow the book step by step. Also, when you set your floats, make sure they're level with the carb body with the carb sitting upside (a padded vice can come in handy)

Additionally, soak your carbs real good and clean out every orifice/jet very thoroughly.

the "special tool" for removing the jets, you can fabricate from a screwdriver with a belt sander or dremel with a sander.

that's a flat tab on the end
don't use a regular screwdriver - mar the surface even a little bit changes the mixure.
