Friend bought a boat with a 2bbl mercarb. It had a rythmic ticking sound I finally tracked down to the back venturi of the carb dripping fuel. When the drips would hit the throttle plates, it sounded like a muffled tick.
No problem, pull it apart, clean it and rebuild it. Simple enough.
Got it back on teh boat after rebuild, same problem. Pulled it back down and soaked it this time in a bucket of cleaner, then I discovered my worse mistake. Fist off, I had picked up the wrong carb kit, got one for a 2GC, no biggie, I can make the one gasket that is different. Biger problem though... I forgot that there are two different checkball sizes and I found I dropped the wrong one in the accelerator pump hole under the venturi.
I have tried to clow it out with air to no avail. I can only see two options:
1: use a slow speed drill press to try to drill through the checkball, hook it, and pull it out
or
2: drill out the ball at the end of the veign in the bottom of the accelerator pump well and try to use a piece of wire the push the ball back out.
Any suggestions? I prefer #1, but is it possible to drill through a checkball?
Assuming I can get teh ball out without damaging the carb, any particular spot I need to double check to solve the original drip?
Thanks.
