When did Evinrude and Johnson start using the exhaust through prop design like the Mercurys? I am looking for a replacement motor for my stolen one and would prefer a motor with the exhaust through prop.

Re: Exhaust through prop?

Where's that story when I need it? Somewhere in my pile of stuff I have documentation that Evinrude invented it and patented it way back 1930-ish something but decided it wasn't practical.

But more to the point is that Merc got it in 1962 according to "The Old Outboard book". OMC got it in 1968 on the 3 cylinder 55hp loopers. It was added to the V-4 motors in 1969. And 9.9 & 15 when they came out in 1974.

Re: Exhaust through prop?

I'm looking for a 25hp. My 1977 Collins Craft with stick steering was rated for a short shaft 35hp but there is a lake nearby that has a 25hp max. The motor that was stolen was a 1980 Mercury 18hp. I still have the remote controls so I would prefer another Merc. If I got an Evinrude or Johnson I would have to pay extra to get their remote controls.
