Re: How do I seal an outdrive?

ya can pressure test the drive to see which seal is leaking. if any. empty the fluid out of the drive. note that it's not milky. milky is water intrusion and a leak. feel the fluid on the way out. specially the first part right after ya take the drain screw out. feel for metal fragments..... none is good....
after it's empty. fill hole screw in place. make something like this to pressure test it @ 15psi. it should hold all day. if not. remove drive and repressure test and use a spray bottle with soapy water to help locate the leak....

that pic is of a bike tire pump. a t to connect a pressure gage too and a mercruiser gear lub end to fill the gear lub up with, modded for my pressure tester... connection to the tire pump is a tire valve stem ground down to fit....

the white this is a auto break self bleeder. a vacum pump. yer drive should hold around 5-7hg of vac.....

if it holds pressure and vacuum, yer ok and don't need to reseal it....

ya will absolutly need a service manual too. oem is best.... ya need #1....

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=251571

check engine s/n and drive s/n against service manual to confirm it's the proper maunaul... service manual #1 is a real large pdf file. 1.23 gb. so give it time to download.....

Using new seals,of course.
but for the correct information you need to tell us what type of drive it is.

Are you saying you put a screw in the bottom of the boat, and you need to seal it?

It's funny Haut - when I read that I read it as the poster calling HIMSELF a bonehead after he had discovered what he did... but with a lack of reply, I guess we'll never know! ;)
