Stupid question of the day........

I have never owned a boat with a lav onboard. I have a 29 foot cruisers with a shower/lav etc. The lav drains to an onboard storage tank. The tank outlet goes to a "Y" valve one leg of the "Y" to the mascerator then overboard, the other leg of the "Y" appears to go to a pump out port on the topside of the boat.

My question is how do you pump it out, do marina's offer this service, or do I need to purchase a pump?....what about RV dump stations at campgrounds. How do I get the crap out of there (pun intended)...???

thanks

Re: Lav Pump Out

Not all marinas offer pump out service. The marina that I use has the service. All boats that have holding tanks must purchase a one time fee for the season to dock a boat there. Transient boats can have theirs pumped out for a fee. At my marina a one time fee is $7.00

They have a hose and fittings that hook up to the waste port on your boat. It actually will suck out all the waste in your tank. Make sure your vent is clear or it can collapse your tank. An RV station will not work since they work on just gravity to dump the waste.

There are Coast Guard regs that says how these systems are set up. I do know that on that "Y" valve that the overboard dump line is to be locked to prevent overboard dumping. That is a serious violation to get busted with. You may want to do some searching on the CG's site for more info.

Good Luck.........SS
