OMC Starter ?'s

I have a 1985 Renken boat with a GM 350 block and an OMC stern drive. Here's my problem. I just installed 2 new batteries this morning. When I turn the key, the starter spins like crazy. I don't hear anything "kicking out", like I read people describing the bendex. All I get is the spinning sound. Is this as simple as pulling off the starter and putting on a new one. Or could it be more complex, like bad wiring, solenoid, etc? Is there somewhere specific I can test with the multimeter to rule out electrical problems? Any ideas?

if the starter is in fact spinning but just not engaging the flywheel, you more than likely just need to replace the starter, only other thing is your flywheel is missing teeth but that doesn't usually happen.

Try tapping it while someone turns the key; sounds like stuck/broken bendix.
