Hi All. New to this site.
Ive a 23 foot boat with twin 150 HPDIs. I blew a powerhead last weekend. Ill be tearing her apart this weekend to find out exactly what happened.
In the mean time Im trying to locate a good used one or perhaps a set of 200 HPDIs if the price is right. Please let me know if anyone has any theyre looking to sell.
Thanks
Chris

before you decide on purchasing twin 200's, i would first be looking at the total HP your transom can handle!!! especially for a 23 footer!!!:):)

She 's rated for up to 400 hp

geez!! what type of hull is it?

Cat?
Offshore racing?
Ski race rig?
Deep V blue water fishing?

just trying to see the picture for the reason for the need for so much horsepower. If its just a fishing rig the only reason i see for big horsepower is bragging rights and the need to empty ya wallet on fuel and maintainance costs.

I have a 23 foot Haines Hunter blue water deep v with a 1991 225HP on the back and that is ample for its use.....when i go to upgrade it im thinking of dropping down to 200hp either HPDI or a Four stroke and will still get the same performance as my current 1991 225hp but better fuel economy.......dont get me wrong....im just trying to understand what you want to do and why:)

Not really sure why she blew yet. I pulled the plugs on the water when it happened and they were dry as sand. Ill have an answer today if the rain holds off. As both engines pull from the same tank , I dont believe its fuel related.

The hull is a 2001 Regulator, which I primarily use for offshore fishing. Ive always got 2+ mpg and can honestly say , 300 hp is the minimum hp you would want on the back. The hull alone is pushing 4K lbs and she carries 185 gallons of fuel.

Interesting what you have quoted on your boat there Chris.

My 23 footer is of about the same weight as yours but i only have a 47 gallon tank for my single engine and my fuel economy comes to an average of 2.58 mpg loaded with 4 adults of reasonable size plus gear on a round trip of 65 miles travelled through average to above average rough blue water cruizing at an average speed of 28-30mph.....and i also find it interesting that my transom is only rated to 300hp compared to your 300+ for the same size and weight boat.......if your getting 2+ mpg with both of your 150HPDI's im just imagining what i would get with just one 200HPDI on the back of mine compared to my old motor......i really find the different setups interesting between the two similar boats.....thanks for your details:):)

Scott-

Now that weight I quoted you was the hull alone. Add a t-top, engines and fuel and your easily at 6k lbs.
A typical "Carolina" boat. Wide bow flair , 24.5 degree deadrise and heavy.
I believe the 2008s are coming standard from the factory with the new F350.
Our "blue" water is at least 70 miles one way from our inlet. Must be great finding the nice water so much closer.
Not familiar with a Haines Hunter. Custom boat ?
Not knowing your boat , I would really research your next engine , as you may actually get better fuel economy from a F225 of F250. You might find you wont have to spin them as much as a 200 to get the same speed.

Chris

its a commercially available popular boat here, here is a link if you want to view it out of curiosity http://www.haineshunter.com/

click on the SS700 and thats the one i have, hull alone is 1380kg or 3036 pounds plus motor etc etc

i have done a bit of research so far between the F225 fourstrokes and the HPDI series engines used on similar boats to mine and both seemed to have come up with similar fuel economy....and i have taken into account extra cost for oil for the HPDI.........its now down to studying both of them for maintainance costs and reliability over time......(making sure that PROPER maintainance has been done) i think talking and corresponding with the commercial guys is going to be the key to my answers to aid me in my decision.
I looked up your type of hull on google if yours is a centre consol walk around, thats what i looked at .....it looks a similar design hull accept mine has a cabin......BTW yours is a nice looking hull! you have the advantage of beeing able to run around your boat chasing those big fish you must hook at times!!:D:D
