Re: Bearing Buddy falls out

This is right from their website..........

The most common reason is the hub bore diameter is wrong, because the hub manufacturer did not maintain quality control during production. Other possible reasons are listed below.
  1. The spindle may be too long, which could cause the nut or cotter pin on the end of the spindle to push against the Bearing Buddy? piston (when grease level is low), eventually forcing it out of the hub.
  2. Excessive removal and reinstallation of a Bearing Buddy? can wear down the Bearing Buddy? shoulder (the part that fits into the hub), which decreases the interference fit between the Bearing Buddy? shoulder and the hub bore.
  3. An out-of-balance tire and/or incorrect bearing torque can cause excessive "wheel play" or wobbling, which can cause a Bearing Buddy? to work its way out of the hub.
  4. Installing the wrong size Bearing Buddy? for the hub bore diameter.
  5. Theft.

Re: Bearing Buddy falls out

I've had the same problem. Even tho the BB is "SUPER TIGHT" when I drive them on with a mallet and a block of wood, they seem to fall off as if they were loose. I suspect it's because of over filling them. I usually fill to the manufacturers instructions. "Fill until plunger is all the way out", but I think maybe the grease expands a lot with heat while driving, thereby pushing the BB off through hydraulic pressure. So the plan is to remove and repack the bearings, then install another set, using threadlock or the equivelent. And filling only until the plunger starts to move out. This is my best recomendation not only for you but also for myself. Good luck with that.

I bet filling them till the plunger is all the way out is your biggest issue. I fill mine till the plunger starts to move. Mine dont fall out.
