Hello all, i have a 1989 Evinrude VRO 150 "VRO has been removed" I cant get the thing to idle once it warms up, it spits and sputters I put it into gear and it kills the motor, i have adjusted the Throttle linkage to advance the stator but it still wount idle, The boat has awesome top end, no problems. But the weirdest thing is i got home and checked the Plugs "NGKs gapped at 30" the top 2 Plugs on each side were dirty but not to bad, but the bottom 1 on each side were clean as a whistle. Thanks for the help in advance

Dave are you getting fuel to the bottom cylinders? If you answer yes how have you verified it? Get yourself a set of muffs, hook it to the water and with the air bos removed add fuel into the carb throat of the bottom carb and see if the rpms come up. If they do then you need to trouble shoot this system. Is there fuel at the bowl fitting? Is the inlet needle working? is the carb clean? Assuming you have already verified spark on all cylinders. Everyone knows of som one who wears contacts, get an empty bottle of cleaning solution from them. put gas/oil in it. It becomes a great trouble shooting tool.

With the engine running, cover the carburetor throats with your fingers. If the speed picks up you are running lean.

Edit, per note from ottertail: If there is no change, check your float valve to make sure that the needle is not stuck closed.

sound like a carb rebuild to me. also you should be running Champion plugs. QL77JC4 gapped at .030. NAPA carries them.

Well i did a thorough cleaning i can tell that someone has been into them before a few screw heads were stripped, but when i started to put them back on the motor i went to put on the linkage and i broke one of the plastic clips, so i didn't get to start her up and see if that helped
