Has anyone else had any issues with the Sierra kits?
I rebuilt both pumps and now they seep fuel from the gasket to diaphram area on both pumps.I took them both back apart and everything was in place correctly.
I noticed the Sierra diaphram is about half the thickness of the old OEM ones.
Looks like i will be ordering OEM kits...

Re: Sierra fuel pump kit problems

I have never had any problems with Sierra parts but I do know that rebuilding a fuel pump sometimes can be very touchy.

I have no problems with the kits, but I use sealant on all of the surfaces and try to clean the surfaces well.

Did you use kit # 18-7800?

Re: Sierra fuel pump kit problems

Thanks guys,I did not use any sealant because the old gaskets were dry installed.
I guess i could pull them off again and try the sealant around the outer edge.
I will need to clean the heck out of them to get any 2 stroke oil off.
It may be better just to get new kits again..
I will run out and get the Sierra number off the kit....

you know my opinion on using oem parts on critical stuff. i rarely rebuild a fuel pump. to much chance for human error.

I hear ya TD...The oem pumps are 86 bucks for the upper and 74 for the lower.
I have run it on the water one time and noticed i lost 300 rpms at WOT.
Pulled the cover off the motor and found fuel everywhere dripping down from the upper pump.
One time the primer ball pumps up hard the next time it won't...
New bulb, carbs rebuilt and now both pumps.

Re: Sierra fuel pump kit problems

I had a guy near me with the same problem a couple weeks ago Gary. I pulled his pumps and cleaned the surfaces, then re attached with a sealant like Ezeke stated and it solved the problem. I would try that before buying the OEM kits.

For the water pump, carbs and fuel pump, I personally use the OEM kits, but that is just personal preference, since they are critical parts as Tash states. I have used the Sierrra coils without a problem.

Re: Sierra fuel pump kit problems

Thanks, I think i will give the sealant a try before ordering more parts.
The BRP site does not list a kit but a few other sites do..Several different kit numbers too...?
Still trying to figure out the difference from the upper and lower pump.I know one has a slightly larger plastic piece on the inside. At least the originals did..
Does one pump at a higher volume?
