I have been having trouble with a Johnson 35 hp motor. I have changed the fuel pump and have rebuilt the carb. I am carrying good compression on the motor. The problem is that the motor will run fine at full throttle for about 5 minutes and then it acts like it is starving for fuel. The motor either reeves back and forth or if you push the throttle past a certain point it dies. I have checked the fuel in the tank and I have the tank vented. Is this possibly a electronic problem, coil or electronic ignition problem? I need help. Thanks

I am at work and don't have the model number with me. I think it is J35ELC .... I believe it is a 1981 or 1984 model

Have you checked the spark when it is warm to ensure that you are not having spark issues when an ignition component heats up?

Well I think that I have found the problem. I replaced the plugs yesterday and decided to switch out the power pack. When I took the old pack off I noticed that it had a burnt spot about the size of a dime on it where it rests against the motor. i think what is happening is when the motor warms up, it's grounding itself.
