Re: nissan 40c engine problem
Your 90 fracking miles from a dealer for anything...Oh well. Let's start with one system at a time and see what you come up with.
As 90% of outboard problems are fuel system related lets look there first. You do fuel system troubleshooting by process of elimination. Dump out your old fuel and start off with three gallons of gas and 1/2 pint of oil. Look for any kind of fuel leak starting at the fuel tank connector and working your way all the way to the carburetor. Wiggle things and see if you see any fuel. If you do, solve that problem. No leaks seen, then pump your prime bulb up again...If it does not get firm, replace the bulb. If it stays firm, then replace the fuel pump diaphragms. If that doesn't solve the problem it's time to take the carburetor apart, soak it in carburetor cleaner for three hours, wash it, blow it and re-install it. Still runs like crap? Put a white sheet of paper in front of the carburetor while the engine is running. If fuel is spitting on it then you have a reed issue.
If, after you have done all of this and it still runs bad, pick up a service manual and run through every electrical test procedure. If that doesn't fix it its time to take that 2 1/2 drive to a dealer.
