Hello,

I am new here and hoping someone can help me with a problem I am having with my motor.

Basically when the throttle is al the was down I have no high speed. Someimtes the motor surges like it is trying to speed up, and other times I have high speed. I think it has something to do with a fuel problem. Currently the motor is hooked up to a small external fuel tank because the main tank has very old, green fuel in it. However before realizing this, some of that fuel went through the motor. Can someone help me with a process of elimination on what to check?

Fuel Pump, Carbs, etc..I really don't know where to start.

The Motor is a 1990 Yamaha 200 HP
Model 200ETXD

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not the expert here so let the others confirm. Obviously you need to clean the fuel path. Judging by the year, it is a carbed engine. Start at the fuel sending unit in the tank (touching everything in between) and end by rebuilding the carbs. Right, and don't forget to clean the tank! A can of Sea Foam spray will help, I buy mine at Napa but most autoparts stores sell it. Also, check out www.yamaha-motor.com and find your way to the parts list for your year and model. It will usually show some great exploded views of your engine and aid in following the fuel path etc. This will also help you gather part numbers for the parts you need (carb parts) which you can bring to your local dealer or shop on line. You've contaminated the fuel system so doing it piece meal will only cause more headaches. I'm not sure about fuel pumps on this engine so maybe someone else will comment regarding replacement or cleaning. Generally diaphrams get old and it is worth replacing them.

Check the fuel filter under the cowling and also the primary filter , assuming you have one set up.

you should see brass plugs on the bottom of the carbs, remove them and pump fresh fuel through the hoses flushing the carbs, after, test run,if the problem persists, you likely need to remove the carbs, dissassemble and clean, the old fuel was your problem,be sure all filters are clean too

It's been awhile since I posted this but i wanted to come back and thank you mikesea..that trick helped A LOT. I pulled the plugs and followed your instructions and it helped greatly. I can't believe I have dealt with this problem for so long and flushing those plugs practically fixed it!!

I still have an "miss" in the engine, but I tracked that down to a bad ignition coil, I ordered the part and am waiting for it to come in.

Thanks for all your hlp everyone
