I ve bought 9,9hp 1988 y Johnson BJ10BACCD. Engine was standing per two years and there was some troubles with low and acceleration..generally at the slow speed engine was stooped after few secund because spark plugs was wet.(flooded) ( sorry my English is very poor)
I,ve taken carb off..cleaned and tested valve.( all ok) But ..inside from the outlet side there is some cupper or bronze ring changing diameter from 21 to 15 mm ( aprox) and on the carb body is mark 6KW (8HP) . There is not any ring like this in any OMC catalog pictures. ( 9,9 HP,15HP or 8 HP ) Somebody has any idea?
Secund quest. what mean mainjet number 40,50,55? ( in OMC catalog) how much is it in diameter in fragmentary of inch or mm?

Re: bronze ring inside 9,9 Johnson carb

What you probably have is a European model engine that has been de-rated to 8hp or 6KW. We've had questions before on that very thing, and reducing the carburetor intake size is one of the ways a 9.9 hp engine might be de-rated to 8hp.

This is usually done for some taxation reason, but I don't know the laws in your country.

You won't find that in a normal parts listing...only in a parts listing for the particular model you have, so it's not surprising that you can't find the bronze ring.

It may be that the ring is removable, or it may be that it is not.

If it is removable, sticking the whole thing in the freezer for a couple of hours will make separation easier.

A jet with the thread size 8-32 and ID #40 stamped on it would be part #0327745 and would have an opening of .040". It would have an opening the size of a #60 drill bit.

A jet with 5/16-24 thread and #40 would be part # 321742 and have an opening of .040".

#50 is .050"

#55 is .055" drill=#54

Jets with numbers followed by "C" have thread size 1/4-20.
Jets with numbers followed by "D" have thread size 1/4-20.

thanks for Your answer... by my opinion it is possible to remove this ring ( by hummer and some piece of metal... on the some wood place)
The air intake carb diameter is 9,9 standard...and the mainjet is 50 ( standard 9,9 too) ( at 8HP is 40)
This ring is unaturally for the carb construction...

Sounds perfect. Now you have a 9.9 hp outboard...and just by removing that throat restrictor. Nice of them to make it so easy, eh? :D
