The motor is an '83 Mercury 70HP outboard...
I pasted the question below from my other post

'83 70HP Mercury fuel mix ratio:

Thanks you guys for all your help I really do appreciate it.
So TCW III oil for the mix?
Am I looking for a specific brand, I don't know exactly what TCW III oil is...
Sorry I am such a rookie, I just don't want to make any mistakes!
Can I get this at Fleet Farm?

And while I am at Fleet Farm should I get a 5 gallon gas container?
Then at the gas station should I fill the 5 gallon container with gas, add the 28 oz. of oil shake it up a little and then add 5 more gallons from the gas pump into the boat? Because I have a place to just put the nozzle of gas pump right into the boat?

Thanks again I really appreciate it!
Have a great weekend on the water

Re: A couple of other fuel mix questions

You can use any 2 stroke oil that says TCW III on the bottle. Some are better quality than others.

Not sure what "Fleet Farm" is but most places that sell gas containers will sell a nice bottle with a cap that will have gas/oil ratios right on it so you can just fill it with enough oil for the size of your gas tank.

Fill up your gas tank, add the right amount of oil, and fire it up.

Re: A couple of other fuel mix questions

TC-W3 is a standard set by NMMA for water cooled 2 stroke engines, HT. Only oil (from any brand name) that meets the standard is labeled TC-W3 or TC-WIII. Your engine can use any brand that is TC-W3 certified and so labeled. I use WalMart's SuperTech brand.

Don't know if Fleet Farm would have it, but Cabelas, there in Owatonna, would have it for sure.

hahahaha....
Thanks JB, I actually just printed what you wrote and will run out to Cabela's after work. I am putting the '89 BassKota boat that I bought yesterday in the water tomorrow for the 1st time. Needless to say that I am excited and nervous at the same time. I will take it slow and easy until I learn what's going on, and any help I can get is really appreciated. I am bringing a seasoned boater with me tomorrow morning who is willing to teach me so that is good. I will keep writing posts because this is really cool.
thanks again JB, and everyone else, this site "ROCKS"

Re: A couple of other fuel mix questions

Good luck-- and plan on something going wrong, it always does. If not the first time it will happen soon enough until you learn all the in and outs of your exact boat and motor setup.

I don't think there are very many things left that haven't happened to me. Dead batteries, forgetting the drain plug, losing a drain plug in the water, breaking the thottle linkage in the middle of the lake, losing the nut for the steering arm on the water, hitting a submerged rock, learning that canoe paddled don't work too good on a motorboat, especially going up river.......... to name a few.

the main thing is have fun.. haha
