How do you remove Evirude Starter?

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have a 1988 Evinrude 28hp E28ESLCCR outboard. I need to remove the carburator to clean and rebuild it. It looks like the starter has to come out first. I don't see an obvious way to remove the starter. It looks like there may be a bracket that holds it, but it looks like the bracket may be built into the motor housing. Can anybody give me a hint as to remove the starter? Is there a way it drops out the bottom? Thanks for any advice and help you can give. cretch.

The bracket is not part of the crankcase. Unbolt it and take it off, starter and all.

Thats what I tried to do. I removed one bolt in the front by the carburator, one bolt on the side, and the ground terminal post on the side. The bracket wouldn't budge. I could not see a seam between the bracket and the crankcase. Is it possible the bracket and crankcase were painted as a unit thus covering the seam? Here are a couple of pictures of the starter. The bolts I removed are inside the red boxes. Are there any more bolts that need to be removed?
Thanks . cretch

You missed a few. Especially the lower one. Also the electric cables.
Remove the clamps from the control shaft and leave it with the motor.

Thank You. It looks like the bottom bolt may be hard to get to. Is it necessary to remove the starter solenoild first? Does it just pop off?

I think you can access the bolt with a socket and long extension, approaching it from way to the rear. Maybe a flex socket. The solenoid would be a pain to get off without first removing the bracket, wouldn't it?

Thanks for your help FR. If the weather cooperates, I'll give this a try tomorrow. I'm working late tonight plus we are having a lot of storms rolling thru right now. Thanks again. cretch

You can get an open end wrench on the solenoid bracket and loosen it and it will slide out when bracket is loose. It is easier to just get that out of the way to get the bolt out of the lower part. I believe there is also a ground wire attached to the lower nut.

Success. FillupD, you were right I was able to get a wrench on the solenoid bracket bolt to loosen it. Then the Solenoid came out and then I was able to remove the bottom bolt for the starter bracket. I'm working on the motor with the boat already in the water, so I have to stand on the pontoon to work on it. I t makes it kind of difficult to sometimes get at the right angle to get to and see everything. Anyway, I got it and now I can move on to the carburator which is the real problem. See my next post as I have another question. Thanks again to FR and FillupD.
