Hi

Have a 1981 Sportcraft with Merc 470. Pulled engine and leg and fixed cam seal water leak etc. Found soft transom so now need to remove transom assemblyand repair.

I have disconnected everything from the inside of the boat, steering, trim/tilt pipes etc but now face with the task of removing the transom plate and gimbal housing.

How is this done? is it just a case of removing the 4 lower nuts and two upper screws and prizing it all off? Or is there other stuff I need to do or remove. I just want it off, repair the transom and re-fit it as easy as possible. The gimbal housing was fully serviced last year with all new bellows etc by the last owner so I don't really need to go there again.

I would very much appreciate any tips and directions.

Thanks Tom.

yake off the exhaust pipe and all hose.remove the nuts and bolts u mentioned and remove the transom assembly from the back of the boat.you have the hardest part done already.as far as removal.you will have to undo the power streering to get the inner plate out of the way.
