part identification help

i have a mercruiser 3.0 L 4 piston engine. there is a clicking noise coming from this part (picture below) and i need help with identifing the part. if you know why it is clicking that would be helpful as well.

does you'r mercruiser have a coil the newer ones have a senoid instead of a coil. when does it click when starting or what?

i talked to my friend and he said that it is just a relay and it is supposed to click when the contacts touch
