I have a 2008 Sun Tracker 21' part barge with a 2008 90hp mercury optimax.
I had the service shop tell me that it was over heating, so they lowered the motor as low as it will go. It still alarms while turning. Doesn't matter if I am going 10 mph or 20mph. Anyone having any seemilar issues. It's back to the shop but there is a 4 week wait on getting back in.

If it's only on turning i would suspect a wiring issue somewhere by the engine itself where the harness moves. Why don't you just start it up and start turning the engine stop to stop and moving the harness. Might be something you can take care of yourself. My 2 cents.

sounds like a short to me. why would a 2008 be running hot? and the alarm only sound while turning. does it do it at idle? moving to merc.

Re: 2008 90hp Alarms while turning

I can sit idel and turn the back and forth and no alarms, it only does it while turning and only maybe 80% of time. I subspect that new design of the tracker boat may have something to do with it. the motor sits further back in direct direct path of the wake from the potoons. So while turning the water inlets maybe somewhat exposed or sucking alot of air. Even though the water stream is steady. My water pressure can go from 12-14 psi to 4-6 psi, but thats not always the case either. I really fustrated, Most of the time I am pulling a tube, but it happens even if it's just my wife and I and no tubers.
Thanks for the comments.
