Diagnosed my problem, i think

I have been working on getting my recently acquired boat into the water this last couple of weeks. I got the new floor in and replaced the impeller this weekend thinking that was the reason I was not getting water to the engine. The old impeller looked new, but I replaced it anyways. I buttoned everything back up and topped it off with oil and proceeded to back the rear into the lake to test. Still no water to the engine.

Then, with the boat back out of the water, I put the gear shifter in forward, the prop locks. I had a buddy turn the prop while I watched inside the boat and I realized that the shaft that goes into the bell housing was turning, while the engine was not... Then when the engine running, the shaft does NOT turn. This finally explains the not getting water into engine and what seemed like not going into gear.

I also have the problem with water coming in the little "witness" hole like the other guy in the link below. Are these problems related?

What do I need to buy to fix these problems? What is the best way to go about fixing? Pulling motor out or pulling outboard unit off? My main problem is I live in a city with parts readily available but the boat is 100 miles away at in-laws who have the shop space to work on it (and extra hands). So, I need to know what I should buy before making the weekend trip to make the repairs. I need a low cost option, as I can't afford any expensive repairs right now (on top of the enormous amount of fuel it will take for my truck and boat the rest of the summer).

Please help me get my boat on the water! The 3 of us that will be working on it are all very mechanically inclined, just don't have much experience in the boat stuff.

Hole in U-Joint bellow, Drive must come off.

Also need to replace long u-joint yoke. (shaft on outdrive)

Gimbal berings and water do NOT like each other!!

Your lookin at about 700 just for parts

1)....It appears that the engine coupler is shot.....:(
You will need to replace it, but first you will need to find the underlying cause for its failure......
Your engine has misalignment issues, whether is is a bad transom or worn rear mounts must be determined ........
You will need to get an alignment tool & fix your alignment issues or you will smoke your new coupler in short order.......
2).......Your drive shaft bellows has a hole in it letting water in...
The bellows must be replaced....
You will need to pull the drive & drain it & pressure test it......
If the gear lube is cloudy or miscolored from water intrusion, it would be cheaper to get an after market SEI drive than to disassemble it , reseal it & replace theujoints.......
If it can hold 11# all day long you have not destroyed the yoke seal & that is good news, but the ujoints will need replacement as well as the gimbal bearing.....
I see alot of time & money for tools & parts to get your rig right.....
Sorry........:(

Re: Diagnosed my problem, i think

The misalignment issues were from the front motor mount support being rotted and allowing the motor do drop down a bit.

This is not what I wanted to hear...

Does this shaft (12) slide into the engine coupler?

Could I not buy the engine coupler and transom seal kit with the gimbal bearing and be done with it? The oil in my outdrive was not milky.
