I have a 1996 intruder 150 on a Straos 18'3" boat. The steering all seems to work fine except when I am about half throttle and not on plane. Then it pulls very hard to ,if I remember right ,to the right.
I have been thinking of getting a Baystar hydro steering kit for it.This one TELEFLEX BAYSTAR HYDRAULIC STEERING SYSTEM HK4200A .Would this solve my problems? Its alot of cash, but if it will do it then thats ok.If not is there anything else I can do to help this out?

Would this only make it pull before its on plane and under some throttle?I read the link but it almost makes it sound like it would make the most difference after on plane, where it does pull.

Outboards tend to change the way they pull, based upon trim position. When they are tirmmed down, they pull right. When they are trimed up, they pull left. The fin above and behind the prop can be adjusted to compensate somewhat for this.

also that is when your motor is working the hardest, go ahead and gun it and get on plane. you will also find some help with installing smart tabs that will get the boat on plane at slower speeds.

Chris I follow you there. It doesnt seem to pull at all once I am starting to trim up.I just dont want to adjust these tabs and screw up the way it steers all the rest of the time.Would the baystar hydro steering help any or not

Hydraulic steering will mask / hide the torqe in the wheel so you feel less of it but it's still there.

I have been talking to some local shops and teleflex. From what I gather I would not be happy with the baystar setup over the seastar.Teleflex said that it didnt really have the strenght for a bass boat, said it was more designed for a bay style boat. They suggested the seastar 7400 kit .This is the route I am looking at now.As you said I think the torque will still be there but the hydro steering will help mello it out or hide it.

I see this was posted a long time ago...but did the hydraulic steering fix your problem?? I have the exact same boat/motor and steering problem. Its hard as he!! to turn left...it wants to turn right hard. I have messed around with the tab and it really does not make that much difference....i guess all these older boats are like this?

I don't really want to spend the money for the hydraulic steering but i guess i will have to if I want to fix this problem...everybody I talk to says there boats are not this hard...but they don't have this big of a motor either....thanks
