I have a 00 Johnson 130hp and I'm having a problem I'd like to get some advice about before I start throwing $$$ down a hole. Here is what it's doing.

Pump up the fuel and oil, launch and about the time it gets up on plane it runs out of fuel. If you pump the bulb it runs fine but then the no oil light lights up. This sounds to me like it can only be a bad pump. Would this be anything other than the fuel pump? Also how would I go about changing it over to run pre mixed fuel? Those pumps are crazy high!

Could be the pump. Could also be the fuel tank or fuel line.

Check the line for air leaks, pinches or twists.

Check the tank pickup and vent for restrictions.

But would a fuel system leak cause the no oil alarm to go off? Lets say the fuel ball is bad, what would that have to do with the oiling system? It seems to me that it would just run out of fuel and not make the oil alarm go off

i have similar problem with my 96 johnson 130. we've checked (as best we can) the fuel line, fuel filter, bulb etc...

it will sometimes run fine at low rpm but when pulling a skier it requires continuous pumping of the bulb. you constantly pump and it is (slightly firm, slightly firm, weak, and repeats).

Also, my voltmeter indicates that i'm just under 12volts and doesn't seem like the altinator is working. Could the fuel pump problem be a result of not enouch eletric "juice"? (it is an electric pump right?)

MJ, The fuel pump is vacuum operated. You need to check your voltage regulator, located behind the flywheel.

Cain, I think is it likely the OMS pump. Why not pump the fuel and oil primers at the same time and see if it works properly?

Also, clean or remove the antisiphon valve in the fuel tank pickup tube, and check all fittings in the fuel line for leaks.

Changing from a 4-wire VRO (#5007420) to a no oil premix replacement pump (#5007422) saves you only about $75. Before you change your pump, be sure to check your pulse limiter to see that it is free of obstructions. This is found on the hose at the bottom of your pump that connects to the crankcase which supplies the vaccumn that runs your pump.

so how do i check to see that it is free of obstructions? (pulse thing)

ps. while checking on some of the suggestions i was pumping the bulb adn there was a sucking sound by the anti-siphon (sp?) valve where the fuel line attaches to the tank. How do i check to see if the valve is o.k.? or what is causing the sound (not suppose to be right?)

No, the sucking sound is likely a problem. The A-S valve is usually located in the fuel tank pickup tube. it is a spring and a ball the seals the fuel line until vacuum is applied. I removed mine and things have been much better.
