OMG!!! I just watched this same video....I am wondering what the dog was doing running around in the cage..and why did it take so long to get the gun...I do think however that the guy survived. At the end of the tape he was still moving a bit. people that cage these animals and do not take care of them in a proper manner often get turned on by the beast. I believe these people trap these animals at a young age rather than purchase a captive bread one (still dangerous!). I seen a show on a man in Texas who had these bears that were used for circus shows. The bears were in small cages and had nothing to do. No food access and NO WATER access and this is in Texas! The show was about animal control coming in to remove these bears and place them in better places. Some were so far gone as in crazy from the small cage life they were put down. Sad...

I just watched it too. I agree that it appears that the guy survived. Not sure which one you watched but I saw the vid posted by PETA. It was pretty long and showed the attack from the point at which the trainer was pinned up against the cage, through the killing of the lion, removal of the guy from the cage and subsequent medical attention. I think he was not breathing at one point because one of the other trainers did CPR on him successfully before the EMTs showed up. The injured trainer was sort of talking and groaning in pain up until the end of the vid that I saw, so he lived at least for some time.
Lucky that a cop, or guard, or whatever he was could be brought to the cage to kill the lion. If not for that, the trainer would have been a goner for sure. I also wondered about the dog but think they probably threw him in the cage as bait for the lion. I guess they hoped the lion would go after the dig so that they could get the guy out of the cage.

The vid is somewhat graphic/gory but I've seen a lot worse. It is also somewhat worthwhile because it makes a person think about how some of these animals live - small cages, being hauled around from town to town, etc. I'm not a huge fan of PETA but they kinda do have a point on this one.
