differences in 95-96 4.3 liter?

I need a new motor for my 1996 Marada with a 4.3 Chevy. I found a couple of 1995 4.3's but I know they are different,just not sure what is different. I think the 1995 has a spot for a mechanical fuel pump,but a block off plate is no problem, is that it or are they totaly different engines? I was wondering if the block/rotating assemblies are the same,and heads?

I gotta believe 1 of your 1995 4.3ls Isn't a 1995 4.3l.....

In 1996 the actual Vortec Heads came out,... They're a Plus to have...

I'm not sure when the Balance-Shaft motors were Intro'ed,....
And the Fuelpump Boss was lost somewhere along the way.....

Ayuh,....

If the motor that's in your boat,... The suspected 96,.. Has Only 8 Intake manifold retaining bolts,...
It has the Vortec Heads,... Get'em Rebuilt,+ Reuse them...

The Long Block,... Should be the Same,... If it's Not,.. There's Work-arounds....

So the bottom end is the same? I have a severly cracked block(previous owner did not winterize, they only took 2 plugs out per side of 1 manifold and 1 block)If the bottom end is the same, I will have the heads checked for cracks and new seals etc, and reuse the heads. I just don't want to buy the 95 and get it home and have multiple problems installing it. I want to be able to swap in the old cam,heads,and intake and run.

there are a few different varieties of 4.3. your major point to look at are the intake. 8 bolt or 12
balance shaft or not
tin or plastic timing cover
roller or flat tappet

if your intake is the 12 bolt(non-vortec), you can use any long block you find. if it is a vortec, you'll need to use your heads. any short block will fit.
