I have a 2002 40 hp elpto on a 18 ft pontoon boat. While running @ 4500 rpm the motor quit. Fuel system was delivering, spark plug was wet. I changed plugs on the water, no start, still wet plug. 20A fuse on top of flywheel cover is OK. All help is appreciated in diagnosis.

Pull your spark plugs one at a time, ground them to motor, and crank motor. See if you have spark.

I'm sure you've checked your kill switch right. Do you have spark on any of the plugs ?

Re: 40hp motor quit while under way

I did check the kill switch. No spark on either of the two cylinders. Someone mentioned a dropped magnet on the flywheel, but I don't have a flywheel puller to check. Also Merc service manual mentions triger, ignition module, or RPM limiter. Has anyone had a somular problem. I would like to attack the most likely rather than throw $$ into parts not needed.
Thanks for all sugestions
