I'm trying to remove the lower unit to replace the raw water pump. I don't know when the prior owner last did the job so I wanted to get this accomplished for comfort sake. Starting from the rear, I removed the trim zinc then the rear bolt. I then removed both 9/16 nuts above the prop and the prop itself. Finally, I loosened both of the front upward facing nuts until they hit the cavitation plate. Is there anything I'm missing? It seems hung up on the shift or drive spline as it cracks open towards the rear but is rock solid towards the front. Do I have to disconnect the shift somehow?

I did try to download Don's mercruiser manual but I'm just getting the cover. The clymers manual I have does not seem to mention any other steps.

Secondary question. I'm trying to swap out props and the existing, damaged one has a hub whereas the new one is hollow. Do I just bang out the hub? I tried drifting it out with a piece of wood and deadfall hammer with no movement. Need a bigger hammer or am I doing it wrong?

There is another nut up front by the shift shaft.

Great! That was it. Thanks!

On issue 2, does the hub just knock out towards the front and I'm just not applying enough?
