Re: Fuel Mix? 65hp
Awesome! Thanks for the links too, going to be a big help! I have been trying to find a cheap manual for the motor, will keep an eye on eBay and see if anything turns up. I got a few questions on the motor as well, i should start another thread on here but that seems like a waste of space so i will add them here and hope you guys can help with this too!
I'm going to drain and refill the lower unit gear lube, i don't know when it was last done and its been sitting a few years so that doesn't help either, but thankfully it was inside a garage that whole time so it did help it survive a bit better. I got this figured out after reading some of the posts on here, found the drain screw and the upper screw. Unless there is any gotchas?
I'm confused on the water route on this motor, i don't have much outboard experience, newbie boat owner here so be kind if i ask something really stupid!
There is no openings on the right side of the motor, looking at it from the back, on the left side there is a long somewhat oblong shaped plate with a small screen in it, i assume this is the water intake? If so i don't see how i could get an earmuff over it since its too close to the flat piece above the prop, plane or whatever they call it, there just isn't enough room for one of those suction cup type earmuffs to go over it.
Also just above the prop there is an angled outlet that has two exits, one i believe is the exhaust because of the exhaust like residue in it, the other in front of that has a screen over it and i assume thats the water exit. I took a hose and put a gentle flow of water in the screen on the side on that plate and water came out of that screened hole by the exhaust, so it makes sense to be the water exit.
Now on the motor just below the power head, i think thats the right terminology, there is a round hole about 3/4" or so in diameter. What is this hole for? Is the the outlet for the water that circulates up through the engine for cooling?
I assume the only way i can run this one for testing is going to be in a water barrel? I need to clean the carbs and give it a tuneup yet, but i did have it running last year in a 55gal drum, for a little bit just to make sure the ignition worked on it, just took until this year to get it. It was a huge pain getting it into that barrel, one heavy old beast!
